About Me

From Medicine to Psychotherapy

Before becoming a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I worked as a medical doctor for over two decades. My background spans General Medicine, Anaesthetics, and Intensive Care, as well as time in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical industry. I’ve worked in hospitals in the UK and Africa — experiences that brought me face to face with human suffering, courage, and the search for meaning and resilience in difficult circumstances.

These years in medicine deeply inform how I work as a therapist today. I bring a scientific understanding of the body and brain together with a compassionate awareness of the emotional and existential challenges that come with being human.

How My Background Shapes My Work

In my practice, I aim to meet each person as a whole — mind, body, and lived experience — rather than as a set of symptoms or problems. My medical and neuroscientific background helps me recognise how physical health, stress, and trauma influence our emotional world, while my training in psychotherapy provides a space to explore the meaning and impact of those experiences.

This blend of science and philosophy naturally led me to an existential and integrative approach to therapy (outlined further on my Therapeutic Approach page). I see therapy as a collaborative process — one that invites reflection, growth, and renewed freedom in how we relate to ourselves and others.

Qualifications & Professional Standards

I hold Degrees in Neuroscience and in Medicine.  I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, trained through PCI College, Dublin. I am a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Practice.  For more on my qualifications and professional memberships, see my Qualifications page.

While I draw from my medical background to inform understanding, I am not a Psychiatrist and do not make/provide diagnoses nor do I prescribe any medication in my psychotherapeutic work.

Where I Work

My therapy room is based in Wicklow Town, in a calm, wood-cabin setting designed to offer comfort, privacy, and space for reflection.
